Terms of Service
Effective Date: March 15, 2026
Welcome to GitMD. These Terms of Service ("Terms") apply to your use of the GitMD website and service (the "Service"). By accessing or using GitMD, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Description of Service
GitMD is a serverless utility that retrieves repository data via the GitHub API and utilizes Google Gemini AI to generate markdown documentation ("Output"). You may use the Service anonymously for public repositories, or log in via GitHub to authorize access to your private repositories. We do not claim ownership over any repository data or the generated Output.
2. Acceptable Use & User Accounts
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes.
- Account Security: If you log in via GitHub, you are entirely responsible for maintaining the security of your GitHub account and the scope of permissions you grant to GitMD.
- Restrictions: You specifically agree not to:
- Use the Service to analyze repositories that contain illegal, harmful, or abusive content.
- Attempt to circumvent rate limits, scrape the Service, or use automated systems (e.g., bots) that place an unreasonable load on our infrastructure.
- Use the Service in any way that violates the GitHub Terms of Service or Google's Terms of Service.
- Represent that the AI-generated Output was entirely human-generated.
3. AI Output Disclaimer & Accuracy
Artificial intelligence is a probabilistic technology. By using GitMD, you understand and acknowledge that:
- Output may be inaccurate: The Service may generate incomplete, incorrect, or entirely fabricated information ("hallucinations").
- You are responsible for review: You must independently evaluate and test all generated Output before relying on it or including it in your own codebases or documentation.
- No professional advice: The Output is for informational purposes only and does not constitute technical, legal, or professional advice.
4. Disclaimer of Warranties
Please read carefully
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, GITMD DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR COMPLETELY SECURE.
5. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL GITMD, ITS CREATORS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, CODE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
6. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless GitMD and its creators from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the Service and its Output.
7. Modifications to the Service
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part thereof) at any time, with or without notice. We may also update these Terms at any time. Your continued use of the Service following any updates constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
8. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any legal action or proceeding arising under these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the courts located in Texas.
